Being Prepared

Hello Everyone!

Today's post is a little personal. As you all know we're currently in hurricane season and if you live in a hurricane prone state like I do (South Carolina) this is NOT always your favorite time of year.

After seeing the devastation in Houston and surrounding areas that were affected by Hurricane Harvey,  it has me a little shook that Hurricane Irma is one the strongest hurricanes on record. So after waking up from a nap on Wednesday evening, I heard the governor declaring a state of emergency as a precaution for South Carolina. Not the thing I wanted to hear. Lets be honest here storms can be terrifying.

I remember later that night (Wednesday) on the 11 pm news they were saying that it's normal to have PTSD or anxiety about this hurricane, especially after the flood in 2015. People including myself are still rebuilding our lives after being flood victims. Then there was that mentioning of Hurrricane Hugo back in 1989 that devestated my state, especially on the coast. I don't remember anything about that hurricane since I was only 3 years old, but my mom has always said it was a terrifying experience and they left without power for about 2 weeks.

I feel like I've been glued to the TV keeping track of this storm especially since the path changes constantly. South Carolina is expected to get heavy rain and winds and possible tornadoes on Monday, but that doesnt mean the path won't change. I'm hoping and praying which ever route this storm goes that it won't cause too much devastation.

Being Prepared

Even if this storm doesn't cause too much damage, it's still good to be preprared since there will be other future hurricanes. In my house we prepare for hurricane season every year.  I just need to find my flashlight! I live in an area that doesn't normally doesn't evacuate (well unless your in a mobile home). I already have water the pantry so thankfully I didn't have to search for that. I did stock up on non perishable foods incase the lights go out.

Thursday around 10am @ Walmart

This was the situation at Walmart. As you can there wasn't any water .

The water cases I had in the pantry

Last year when Hurricane Matthew hit, the lights went out for a few hours and some trees were down in the neighborhood, but nothing to damaging in my area. Being prepared is important. I wanted to thank everyone that left such kond words on my Instagram My thoughts and prayers are with everyone going through this. May God bless us all.

  7. I hate hurricane season too even though I don't live in a hurricane state. Many of my family and friends do and I can't help but be worried for all. Glad you were prepared and very glad that hurricane Irma changed course but hit the areas were some of my family live. But thankfully last night we got word that everyone is safe. I was glued like in a trance watching the news about the hurricane. Mom and I could not stop watching. But prayers go out to those that have been affected by Irma and by Harvey.

    1. I've lived in South Carolina all my life, but I will never get used to hurricane season. I'm glad that the storm didn't do too much damage in my area. It's still raining hard and there's a lot of wind. I'm glad your family is safe and my prayers go out to all those who went through these storms.

  10. Pilar, I feel better knowing you are prepared. My g.daughter did well getting ready also. I always keep some clean milk jugs here....to fill with water if I ever have too. I will put extra water in the fridge in winter storms and bad summer weather. We have never done without power for a very long time... a day. I pray for all of you, Be safe honey. 1. Thanks Susie! I think everyone was trying to get water from the store, but I'm so glad we already had stockpile of bottle water in the pantry. I had a couple of clean empty jugs I added water too just incase. The power went out a few times today, but not for long. Blessings to you as well!
