Hair Care: The Pre Poo Process

Hello Everyone!

After having box braids for a few months, it was time to treat my hair once I removed them. Hence a much needed pre poo. I usually pre poo my hair anyway, but today I'm going to share how I care for my hair.

What is Pre Poo-ing?

Pre poo is short for pre shampoo treatment which usually includes oils of your choice that are applied to your hair before shampooing. You can also add conditioner to your pre poo mixture. If you think about it, pre poo-ing is  basically washing your hair in reverse.

How I Pre Poo My Hair

Ingredients and Supplies:

- Palmer's Coconut Oil Formula
  Repairing Conditioner

- Spectrum Organic Coconut Oil
  (Unrefined)

- Great Value Extra Virgin Olive Oil

- Bowl

- Spoon

Directions:

1. Place conditioner in bowl

2. Place small amount of extra virgin
    olive oil in bowl

3. Place coconut oil in bowl

4. Mix all ingredients together until
    smooth

5. Lather scalp and hair with pre poo
mixture and place a shower cap on
your hair. When I took my hair out
of the box braids, I let the pre poo
mixture stay in my hair for an hour
and a half, but usually I let it stay in
my hair for about 30 minutes.

6. After I pre poo my hair, I wash my
hair with shampoo, and let my hair air dry.

7. After my hair is dry, it feels so soft and
moisturized. I don't always want to pre poo my
hair, but the results are well worth it.

Do you pre poo your hair? What products do you use?

  2. This is a great post Pilar!! I've heard such good things about using coconut oil for hair. I really need to try something like this!! My hair is so dry and damaged. I usually don't do stuff like this to my hair because it makes to too soft the next day and then it work style LOL (first world problems), but I really should do it on a night where I know I won't be going any where the next day or something. I never thought to mix conditioner with the oils either, that's a great idea!!

    1. Thanks Ashley! I know what you mean my hair can also become dry as well as frizzy! I read and heard so many people raving about this process so I decided to give it try and it's worked well for my hair. The oils are really beneficial for helping me maintain healthy hair. If you try this process reduce the amount of oils you use if you don't want your hair to be too soft for styling the next day. A little of both oils goes a long way!

  7. I do something similar, I did a post on it a while ago. I use conditioner(I'm using the Ganier one in the yellow packaging now), coconut oil and I use Black Castor Oil or Olive Oil if I'm out of that. I usually leave it in my hair for a good portion of the day then wash as usual. Great pre poo treatment!!

    1. Thanks Andrea! I remember your post! I heard castor oil was good for hair too. I would like to try that next. I also heard leaving the pre poo mixture in your hair for most of the day also helps with maintaining healthy hair. Good tip!
