Pilar in the Pantry: Stuffed Manicotti with Meat Sauce Recipe

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to my Pilar in the Pantry post! I did one of these ages ago, but as promised in my post last week I wanted to include more of my recipes. Today I have a pasta recipe that I wanted to share. One of my favorite dishes to make is Stuffed Manicotti with Meat Sauce. I always make two of these dishes because this is one of those type meals that when I make it, it goes pretty quickly and people always want seconds. This is also the type of meal that is great to take to a pot luck or for any pasta lover. I made this meal for Memorial Day.

INGREDIENTS:

(This recipe is for 2 casserole dishes of Manicotti. If you don't want to make this much, cut the ingredients in half)

For Meat Sauce:

· 2 lb ground beef

· 1 (67 ounce) jar of Prego Traditional Spaghetti Sauce

* seasonings of your choice add to the ground beef

For Cheese Filling:

· 2 (15 ounce) containers of Ricotta cheese

· 1 block of cream cheese

· 2  1/2  tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

· 4 eggs

· Pepper (used lightly)

· 1 (16 ounce) package (2 cups) shredded mozzarella cheese

· 2 (8 ounce) packages of manicotti noodles

· Ziploc Bag (to stuff manicotti shells)

Other Things You'll need:

· Frying pan or large pot

· Mixing bowl

· Large spoon

· Measuring Cups

· Ziploc Bag (to easier stuff manicotti shells)

· Glass baking dish or pan

· Pam Non Stick Original Cooking Spray

· Aluminum Foil

Preparation and Cooking Directions:

· Side Note:  No need to cook manicotti shells first, you can stuff them uncooked for easy handling.

· Side Note: Take cream cheese out of the refrigerator at least 1 hour before you make the cheese filling. This will make stirring the mixture easier when the cream cheese is softer.

1. About 1 hour before serving: brown ground beef in a frying pan or large pot, season meat with the seasonings of your choice. Cook on medium high minutes until meat is no longer pink. Drain. Stir in spaghetti sauce. Cover with lid, let simmer, and remove from heat

2. In a medium bowl, combine Ricotta cheese , Parmesan cheese, eggs, cream cheese, pepper, and 2 cups mozzarella cheese until creamy.  Add mixture to a zip lock bag and cut a small hole in the corner of the bag to stuff manicotti with cheese filling.

3. Preheat oven to 350°F

4. In a glass baking dish or a pan, spray lightly with Pam Non Stick Original Cooking Spray. Add a small layer of meat sauce in the bottom of the dish. Arrange manicotti in a single layer. Add meat sauce to completely cover (DON'T add meat sauce to the top, leave room because if you don't you will have spillage)

5. Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella cheese. Cover dish with aluminum foil.

6. Cook for 1 hour or 1 hour and 15 minutes. Check your Manicotti about 40 minutes after you place it in the oven (the manicotti noodles should be tender) If you use a glass baking dish, make sure you place the hot casserole dish on a dish cloth or cloth. Let cool and serve.

7. Last but not least, don't forget the garlic bread (optional) and  Enjoy!

Here are a few other pics from Memorial Day Weekend/ Memorial Day

New MAC Lipsticks/ My Favorite Lipstick and Lip Gloss Pairings

Hello Everyone!

Disclaimer:
My apologies for the missing pictures. My pictures were accidentally deleted off my blog. Please Refer to my Instagram account miss_pilar to view the pictures (or some of the pictures) that were deleted.

Today's post is all about lipstick and lip gloss. In addition to eyeshadow, lip products are some of my favorite makeup products (which I'm sure some of you already guessed lol) This is a post I worked on when was away from my blog.

First, here are 3 new MAC Lipsticks I've purchased so far this year (you may have seen these already if follow me on Instagram or read my blog regularly)

- MAC Twig (Satin)

- MAC VIVA Glam Miley Cyrus (Amplified)

- MAC All Fired Up (Retro Matte)

To view the rest of my MAC Lipstick collection CLICK HERE

Now for the second part of my post, these are a few of my favorite lipstick and lip gloss pairings.

1. NYX Butter Lipstick in Hot Tamale with Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Kiss Me Coral

2. Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Red 2000 with Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss  in Fatal Apple

3. Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Dream Fuchsia with NYX Butter Gloss in Sugar Cookie

4. MAC Pink Nouveau Lipstick with NYX Butter Gloss in Apple Strudel And MAC Pink Nouveau with It Cosmetics CC + Lip Serum in Live

5. MAC Snob, MAC Saint Germain, and MAC A Novel Romance Lipsticks with NYX Butter Gloss in Merengue. All of these bright lipsticks go so well with this lip gloss.

As you can see these three MAC lipsticks are similar in color, but if anyone is wondering Snob is the darkest, Saint Germain lighter, and A Novel Romance is the lightest shade.

6. MAC Faux and MAC Twig Lipsticks with It Cosmetics CC + Lip Serum in Love

7. MAC Rebel Lipstick with Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Berry Allure

8. NYX Butter Lipstick in Sweet Tart and NYX Butter Gloss in Strawberry Parfait

When I prep my lips with some lipsticks, I use MAC Prep+Prime, but I also like to use Nivea Lip Balm. Nivea Lip Balm works well with matte lipsticks

What are some of your favorite lipstick and lip gloss pairings?

How I've Changed

Hello Everyone!

You know it's still seems surreal that I'm 29 now. It seems like just yesterday I was that 20 year old girl who was in college. Where did the time go? lol Anyway, today I want to reflect on how I've changed in the last 9 years. I guess you can say 29 is my reflection year.

1. I Love Home Decor...Now

I remember in my early 20's I could care less about home decor. As long as my room at home and my dorm room was the way I wanted that's all that mattered to me. I used to get so bored going home decor shopping with my mom. Now I constantly ask her opinion on decorating tips.

2. Budgeting and Saving Money

I've always been pretty good on this. Sure I may spoil myself sometimes, but I'll never put my wants before my needs. That makeup palette may look beautiful, but it's not going to pay my bills. Priorities always come first.

3. In Speaking of Priorities...

Some things I found unimportant at 20 are definitely important to me now. For example, I used to find the National Evening News super boring, but now I watch it a few times a week. It's good to be informed on what's going on in the world.

4. Staying in on Friday and Saturday Nights

Sure I may have gone out some in my early 20's, but I'm totally comfortable with staying in watching a good movie or documentary. I guess I've always been somewhat of an homebody.

5. Becoming more domesticated

I love to cook, bake, craft etc. I swear I'm going to make a good wife someday. To think when I was 20 I could care less about anything domesticated. I can thank my mom for my awesome cooking, baking, and crafting abilities.

Changes Coming to Beauty and More By Pilar :)

Hello Everyone!

Based on today's title you're likely wondering what I'm talking about. We'll I'll tell you. Since I moved about a month ago I've been drafting  more ideas I want to include in my blog. I'm still getting settled, but I definitely want to include my makeup storage collection/storage. That post is way overdue! So stay tuned for that. I also plan on including a few recipes. I haven't forgotten about the crock pot Lasagna, but my crock pot stopped working so once I replace it, I'll have that up. I know I could go ahead and post the recipe, but I like to include visuals in my post. I've also seen a few DIY videos on You Tube that I want to try and a few DIY projects of my own as well. Who knows what  I'll come up lol. I would also like to include a few fitness related posts. I love reading those types blogs and viewing fitness videos on You Tube, I figured it would be a great time to start a series of my own. Promoting health is always a good thing! I'll still post the materials that I normally post, but I wanted to add those things as well.

I really look forward to sharing these new things with you all as I get settled in my new place! If there is anything else you want me to include on my blog , let me know in the comment section below!

My First Impressions Thoughts

I absolutely love the colors Red Heart sent me! How gorgeous are the colors for the Twilight, Fur, and Infinity yarns and fabrics?  I really like that Red Heart Yarn offers so many textures and unique fabrics in addition to yarn. I like variety when I make handmade projects. I also like how in addition to variety, these products can be used with a crocheting hook, or knitting needle depending on the project (I touched basis on this topic with a scarf I made last Fall with the Boutique Sassy Fabric). I can't wait to get started on some upcoming projects that I will share with you all on my blog!

For those of you who are familiar with my blog, know that I love to crochet. Red Heart Yarn is my go to brand. Even though I go to Walmart and Michaels to make Red Heart Yarn purchases, I also make purchase from their website www.redheart.com/yarn Once again to read more about Red Heart Yarn you can read the post I wrote last HERE and on the Red Heart Yarn website.

Mad Men: End of an Era (My Thoughts)

Hello Everyone!

* This post has spoilers if you haven't watched the series finale yet.

So last night my one of all time favorite shows concluded, Mad Men. It was hard to except that I now have to live in Don Draper-less world (there's always reruns and dvds I know lol) Nonetheless a bittersweet series finale. Here are my thoughts about it. I'm primarily going to focus on Don Draper.

Honestly I thought it was a great way to end to series. It started out slow and I was starting to feel a certain type way because I wasn't sure where the story was headed. I will say that I was so happy Don FINALLY found peace. If you've watched Mad Men from the beginning, you know that Don Draper had his demons. Everything from his name Don Draper which was the identity he stole of a fallen soldier in the war (his real name is Dick Whitman), his countless women, the cigarettes, the drinks, and going missing in action when life became too much for him. You can't help but hate to love his character and you can't wait to see what he will say or do next. Not to mention how incredibly handsome and sexy he is.

Now back to Don finding peace, I think that last night's episode showed us that anyone has the ability to change for the better. Going to that peace therapy retreat really bought out his vulnerable side and he was able to release all those negative feelings had inside for so long. The most touching and emotional part in the series finale was Don hugging the man and crying during the counseling session. I think Don knew what it was like to be that man, to feel alone or overlooked at some point during his life (especially during his turbulent childhood). Honestly, I don't see how anyone could watch that scene and not cry. I know I did. His character was even able to come up with the 1971 Coke Ad: I'd like to buy the world a coke. I thought it was awesome how at the end we see Don on the hilltop meditating and smiling as the archive footage of the Coke commercial from 1971 played.

As for everyone else, I think they found peace or made peace with their life. Sadly even though Betty was dying of advanced lung cancer, in the last few minutes of the show we see her smoking a cigarette. Pete got his family back, Roger got married, Peggy even realized her love her Stan (about time!), and Joan started a business.

I don't want to include too many spoilers in case there are people who haven't seen the finale yet, but those are few elements I wanted to focus on. I thought it was a beautiful way to end an AMAZING show. Thank you Mad Men and AMC for entertaining me for the past 8 years! Cheers to the end of an era!

Maybelline The Nudes Pallete Review

Hello Everyone!

I've been a fan of Maybelline eyeshadows for years, so naturally when their brand released the Nudes palette I had to have it! I originally wanted to do a series of all palettes released so far, but I can't find two of them (The Brights and The Smokes)! That's why it took me so long to get this post up. Everytime I check the stores they're sold at, no luck. I haven't completely given up my search for the other palettes, but at least my mom was able to find this palette soon after it was released last year.

Pros
- Small and convenient
- Decent Pigmentation
- Budget Friendly
- Easy to blend
- Gorgeous matte and shimmer
  shades

Cons
- A few shades fade quickly or lack
  pigmentation
- No Mirror
- Sponge application brush isn't all that good

Overall Thoughts

Maybelline has done it again for me, I love this palette! The colors are pretty and easy to blend. I like how I can use either MAC's Paint Pot in Painterly or NYX White Eyeshadow Base and the colors show up well. I've only had issues with two of the lightest shades that were either lacking pigmentation or hard to work with. This is a good palette to have in a makeup collection and I like how I can throw it my makeup bag as well. This palette retails for $9.99 and my mom purchased this for me at Walmart.

Do you own any of the new Maybelline Palettes? Also, if you haven't checked out my previous Top 10 Favorite Drugstore collaboration post with a few other bloggers, CLICK HERE to read.

Side Note: Whose watching Mad Men Series finale tomorrow night?? I can't believe it's almost over. I'm still shocked by last weeks episode! I'm curious of how the show will end its run!

Top 10 Drugstore Favorites Collab

Hello Everyone!

Disclaimer:
My apologies for the missing pictures. My pictures were accidentally deleted off my blog. Please Refer to my Instagram account miss_pilar to view the pictures (or some of the pictures) that were deleted.

Today I have a collaboration post for you. I was asked by my friend Ashley if I wanted to participate with her and a few other bloggers to compose my favorite top 10 drugstore products. I love these kind of posts because you can find great deals on makeup in the drugstore and a lot of these products work just as good as high end brands. This is also a way for us bloggers to support each other and explore other blogs.

Side Note: I'm so glad that I packed my makeup in a neatly fashion before I moved, it made it that much easier to find all the things I needed lol

These products aren't in any particular order.

1. NYX Butter Lipstick

The name says it all "butter" I only have four of these lipsticks, but they're so easy to apply and last for hours.

2. NYX Butter Gloss

This butter gloss is very impressive! When I started using these glosses last year I was very surprised that they're so pigmented!

3. NYX Eyeshadow Base in white

I love to use the base, especially for bright color eyeshadow because the colors really pop and there isn't much creasing throughout the day.

4. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara in Clear

I use this clear mascara on my brows and on those days I don't feel like wearing black mascara. Since I have long lashes many people think I'm wearing black mascara when I wear this lol.

5. Covergirl Bombshell Volume by Lashblast Mascara

I know that this mascara caused a lot of buzz on the Internet at one point about difficult removal, but I haven't had any issues with it. To be on the safe when I first started using this Mascara, I use coconut oil as a eye makeup remover, and it comes right off.

6. Maybelline The Nudes Palette

This is a great nude palette to add to any makeup collection. The shades blend well together and wear well thought the day. (I have a full review on this palette coming soon)

7.  Nivea Lip Balm
Typically I use MAC Prep+Prime underneath matte lipsticks, but this works just as well! For some of my matte lipsticks, this actually works better. Besides this is a good lip balm to have around in general.

8. Ponds' Wet Cleansing Towelettes

I like to buy these travel sized Ponds Towelettes because they don't dry out as quickly as the regular sized pack. These get most of my makeup off before I cleanse my face. I usually keep a pack in my makeup bag as well.

9. Cetaphil DermaControl Oil Moisturizer

This moisturizer isn't only good to use for skin care of your face, it also is dual product that can be used as a face primer. Cetaphil sent this to me last year for a product review and it has quickly become my new favorite face primer.

10. NYX Lip Pencil

As you probably can tell from this post, I really like NYX products. As much as I love MAC I find these NYX Lip Pencils are a great alternative if you rather not spend $15.00 on a MAC pencil. These lip pencils are very pigmented, non drying, and apply easy on the lips.

All in Packaging First Impressions Review

Hello Everyone!

* These products were sent to me by All in Packaging for testing and review purposes. All opinions are 100 % my own.

I was recently contacted by a representative from All in Packaging which a company that's based in the United Kingdom to write a review. The focus for this post is going to be about how I can use this packaging to store my cosmetics. I want to thank them for sending me these products to review and test.

A little about the company:

All in Packaging is an online company that sells packaging storage items that range from cosmetics to food storage etc. There is likely something or another on the website that you guide you in your search for storing and packaging your items. I was informed that company doesn't ship to United States, but I was given an opportunity to choose a few items and test them out. Wasn't that nice of the company?! This is actually my first international review so I'm pretty stoked about it!

My Thoughts

1 Hard plastic jar with lid
I haven't decided what I'm going to use this jar for yet, but I'm thinking about using it for my pre poo mixture of coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, and conditioner.

2. I think the circle bottles these are so cute!

I chose some screw on tops in addition to the spray nozzles so I can switch it out when needed.
In one of the circle bottles I put extra virgin olive oil. I like how this bottle didn't leak when I turned it upside down with the spray nozzle. This bottle also didn't leak when I placed the screw top on as well. This is a very sturdy bottle made of semi hard plastic. The sprayer works well. This blue sprayer has a steam effect (The red sprayer has a spray effect).

3. The last plastic bottle is sturdy as well. This bottle isn't hard, but it isn't flimsy either.
I had to cut the tubing so it could fit the bottles properly. I stored the left over tubing in a zip lock bag for future usage if I need to change the tubing.

I'm very pleased with the items I chose. I definitely use these for my cosmetic items. I really like how the olive oil looks in the circle bottle versus the original bottle it came in. It just looks so much better. I also like how these storage items are travel friendly. For my international readers in the United Kingdom you can check out their website at http://www.allinpackaging.co.uk. Even though this company doesn't ship to United States you can still browse the site.

Inspirational Post Tips for a Happier Morning

Hello Everyone!

I hope all the mothers had a wonderful mothers day yesterday! Today's post is all about happy morning inspiration. I'm definitely not a morning person and if I'm up too early I may go on an unintentional rant about something or another. I guess that comes from the sleepiness. Hey sometimes a girl has to get her thoughts and life together before starting the day lol. Anyways, here are a few tips I use to get my morning off to a happy start.

1. Say a pray and read a scripture from the Bible.

I try to say a pray before I start my day and I also try to read a scripture from Bible. I find this gives me a sense of peace and serenity to prepare for the day ahead.

2. Think positive thoughts

Each day is a new beginning and I look forward to what the day may bring. It's true that you're not going to always have a good day everyday, but I try to keep a positive attitude.

3. Take a shower

I feel so refreshed when I take a shower. Some mornings when I'm extra sleepy, a shower quickly wakes me up.

4. Eat breakfast

I know it sounds cliché, but I agree that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I usually eat something before I start my day.

5. Sending and receiving a morning text message

Morning text messages are the best! You never know sending a text message can really brighten someones day, just as the same with receiving them. These messages don't have to be long or an everyday thing, but a few kind words can make all the difference. My best friend texted me the other morning he's so awesome!

I hope that you find my tips for having a happier morning helpful! How do you get your morning off to a happy start?

Anastasia Beverly Hills Artist Palette Review and FOTD

Hello Everyone!

Finally I'm able to post my review on the new Limited Edition Artist Palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills! I've had this palette for about two weeks, but I will say this I'm very impressed so far with it! If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen a few pictures of this palette and swatches. I don't want to give away to many details before I  write the full review, so lets get started!

Package and Appearance

The packaging is a hard cardboard that is brightly colored with a magnetic snap closure. Honestly when I first saw the outside of this palette online my thoughts were this palette looks like it's going to be full of bright vibrant colors. Now Fast forwarding to the actual colors in the palette, I was right lol.

This palette includes shades that are velvety, matte, and shimmery. These colors are bright and perfect for Summer.

Here are the list of shadows in detail (resource list from the Sephora website)

- Dusty Rose (matte mauve),
- Augergine (velvet eggplant)
- Anaconda (shimmery green)
- Punch Fuschia (velvet bright purple)
- Buttery (velvet soft yellow)
- Blue Velvet (velvet navy)
- Coal (matte black)
- Unicorn (shimmery perriwinkle)
- Phresh (matte bright yellow)
- Baby I'm a Star (sparkling brown)
- Orange You Fancy (shimmery orange)
- Beigely (shimmery beige)
.

FOTD

* Eyes *
NYX Eyeshadow Base in white
- Dusty Rose: Transition Color
- Phresh: On whole lid
- Punch Fuschia  On top of lid and Outer V

This is the look I went with using Anastasia Beverly Hills Artist Palette and MAC Faux Lipstick

This is the original look I created, but I went for the nude lip instead. It was so hard to choose lol. I'm wearing MAC Heroine Lipstick

My Thoughts

I absolutely love this palette! The colors are so vibrant and pigmented! The only color that was a little less pigmented is Beigely. I think I can make Beigely pop with my NYX Eyeshadow Base in White. You can make any makeup look pop when using these colors. The colors are easy to apply. The brush that came in the palette is so soft and easy to use. This palette also comes with a decent sized mirror. The Artist Palette is a travel friendly, and I can see myself using this palette on the go as well. When I used this palette, there was minimal fallout, so I was very happy about that. I wore these colors for most of the day without fading or creasing. This was my first purchase from Anastasia Beverly Hills and it definitely won't be my last. I purchased the palette online from Sephora for $30.00.

Do you own this palette? If so what are you thoughts?

Spring Haul 2015

Hello Everyone!

Today I bring you a Spring Haul. FINALLY it's my favorite season! Yes my allergies and sinuses are horrible right now, but nonetheless Spring is my favorite time of year! Since I've been away from my blog, this is more of a collective haul. This post will be pic heavy lol.

PINK Chug Mugs

I absolutely love these mugs! They're good for hot or cold drinks. Since I love water, that's what I plan to keep in these 24 oz mugs. These are going to be perfect for the warmer weather! Side note: The Graphics on the cup started to fade or at least mine did.

MAC All Fired Up Lipstick (Retro Matte)

It wouldn't be a haul if I didn't include a MAC lipstick lol. This is a pretty Spring/Summer shade I look forward to wearing.

PINK Sun Kissed Body Mist,  2-in-1 Body Wash and Scrub, and Hand Cream

This scent has been one of my favorites since December! I went ahead and purchased another bottle of the spray since I use it so much. I'm glad that the body wash and scrub was back in stock. As for the hand cream, it smells really nice and it's a lighter scent of the coconut and vanilla that Sun Kissed usually has.

PINK Sweet & Flirty 2 in one Body Wash and Scrub

This is my second favorite scent from VS right now. It smells just like it says sweet and flirty. A yummy smell of sugar and grapefruit. I also like that the scub isn't too harsh for my skin.

Old Navy Tube Maxi Dresses

I've had these since last year, but I haven't worn them yet. I live in maxi dresses during the warmer months! I love them so much!

 PINK Beach Tote

I really like this bag, I just wish it was a little bigger. The pockets are very roomy and the top of the beach bag has a snap closure.

Heavenly 1.7oz Perfume and VS Fabulous Tote

This perfume smells so nice and the tote was free with the purchase of 1.7 oz perfume.

VS Clearance Items

Now of course I had to check out the clearance items at VS.

VS Weekender Bag

This weekender tote bag came out in March 2014 (I think) It was a free gift last year with a purchase of $75. Well VS had it on clearance so I decided to purchase it. It's very roomy inside.

VS Journal

I think this was another free item that VS offered last year. Look how pretty and sparkly it is!

I don't know if I'm going to use this as a traditional Journal, but I can see me keeping this inside my purse.

Sparkly pen that came with the Journal

VS Mini Bag

These little bags are so versatile! I can keep credit cards, cash, small makeup products and even my cell phone depending on the size. I have a Galaxy S4  and it fits inside without the case.

VS Makeup Bag

My last clearance item is this makeup bag. A girl can never have too many makeup bags right lol?

BIC Atlantis Mechanical Pencil

I picked these pencils up from Walmart

 Sinful Colors Professional

This color (You Goji) stood out to me and it looks so pretty on my nails

Anastasia Beverly Hills Artist Palette

Last, but not least, this gorgeous palettes from Anastasia Beverly Hills. This is my first purchase from this brand and I can't wait to use it. I will also write a review with swatches soon!

What items have you purchased for Spring?
