Healthy Skin Tips

Hello Everyone!

I've been meaning to get around to this topic, ever since I started blogging...healthy skin tips. This is a topic anyone can relate too. Stress, allergies, weather changes, pms symptoms etc. can sometimes cause skin issues. When my skin misbehaves or I'm just maintaining my beauty regimens, I've found these tips helpful.

Oily Skin and Breakouts

1. Use a face or body wash that is geared toward your breakout. (I know that sounds cliché) When I have a minor breakout(s) on my face I use Noxzema Triple Clean Anti- Blemish Pads. I think these Noxzema pads really deliver. They dry out acne, eliminate oily skin, and get rid of any dirt I may have on my face. I only use them as needed because the Noxzema pads tend to dry my face. I also wash my face immediately and apply Ponds Dry Skin Cream to lock in moisture.

2. If you find your skin is breaking out more than usual, the cause could be your daily habits etc. For me stress and allergies are main factors. I also try not to overload on a lot of sugar.

3. When all else fails, you may have to consult with a dermatologist to help resolve the issue.

Maintaining Healthy Skin Do's and Dont's

Do's

1. Drink plenty of water!! Water is not only good for you; its good for your skin too! I stress this tip :)

2. Try to get adequate sleep. I use the word adequate because everyone sleep habits vary. As a night owl myself I struggle with this one. This tip especially applies to your face because lack of sleep can be obvious if you have dark circles under your eye. Concealer helps, but its best to try and get rest.

3. Keep your skin clean and well moisturized. I usually moisturize my skin after I take a shower or bath. I apply lotion while my skin is semi damp so the moisture will stay locked in and keep my skin soft. Refer HERE for the products I use.

4. Exfoliate while showering or bathing. Before I shower I use a dry loofah to get rid of any dead skin cells. Then I lather the loofah well with shower gel or I use a washcloth, and I proceed with washing. However, when I'm using an exfoliating scrub for my face, I only use it once or twice so I wont over exfoliate my face.
5. Wash all the makeup off your face. Isnt tempting to crash into bed after a long day, but DONT!! lol You should face your face. Wearing makeup to bed is bad because you can possibly have a breakout by morning. In addition to a breakout, you may also have clogged pores.

Dont's

1. Don't sleep on a dirty pillowcase. Wash your pillowcases on a regular basis. This is also another way to get a breakout and have clogged pores.

2. Don't over wash your face. I've always been told you shouldnt do this. I usually wash and moisturize my face twice a day and Im good to go :)

3. Don't overload on sugar. This is yet another factor that can cause a breakout.

Well those are just a few of my do's and dont's tips for managing breakouts and maintaining healthy skin. What beauty regimen(s) do you use?

Crocheting Project: Double Crochet Beanie Hat

Hey Everybody!

Disclaimer:
My apologies for the missing pictures. My pictures were accidentally deleted off my blog. Please Refer to my Instagram account miss_pilar to view the pictures (or some of the pictures) that were deleted.

I've been really focusing on my crocheting lately :) For today's post I wanted to share a double crochet beanie hat I made. I was kinda psyched to make this hat because I haven't made a beanie before now. Overall I was pleased with the way it came out. Once I found a crocheting technique that worked for me, this project was fairly simple. I started at the rim rather than using the crown technique. I usually wear those ridged hats (crocheting support ), but I don't wear a lot of beanies. I thought it would be cool to make one to wear and add it to my upcoming fall/winter accessories :)

Double Crochet Beanie Hat

The top of the hat (I had to lay the hat on one side)

Materials Used

Red Heart Yarn: Grey Heather
Boye Hook: Size J (I added the pencil grippers)
Boye Tapestry Needles

Keeping A Positive Attitude

Hey Everyone!

I wanted to do a quick post about going through experiences in this journey called life :) I know many of you are going back to school whether it's high school, college, grad school or even just starting a new job or experience in general try your best to go into your situation with a positive outlook :) All these situations can be frightening when going into the unknown, but someone once said there nothing to fear but fear itself. I've always felt starting a new or starting over can be a refreshing experience. It gives you a chance to do things differently, maintain or improve skills you have etc. I know it's hard to stat positive sometimes when things become difficult. We all have felt discouraged and doubtful at some point. When i feel everything is wrong, i try my best to look past all the negativity i may be thinking. Whatever you're getting ready to do in you life, major or minor challenge yourself to have the best positive attitude toward the situation :) I leave you with this, Be brave, stay strong, and keep positive :)

Fingernail Polishes Review

Hey Everybody!

Disclaimer:
My apologies for the missing pictures. My pictures were accidentally deleted off my blog. Please Refer to my Instagram account miss_pilar to view the pictures (or some of the pictures) that were deleted.

I wanted to focus today's post on another one of my favorites, fingernail polish. I'm still on a voyage to find a good brand that actually lasts lol.

Well in the mean time here are a few brands that I use

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Hardener
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Color

As much as I love the colors I cant say these are my favorites. I dont know what has happened over the years, but its almost as if the polish doesnt wear long as it used to. I still buy these from time to time because like I said I really like the colors. This isn't a terrible brand I just have to keep retouching my nails often, sometimes the very next day. I do like the price because I've only paid between $2.50 to $3.00. The Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Hardener works really well. I haven't had any issues with it. I also paid $2.50 for this brand. Both polishes are good size bottles; Ive been able to get many uses out of them.

Milani Nail Lacquer

You probably noticed that I have these polishes in variety shades of pink, among the other colors. This has become one of my favorite brands. Ive found the polishes are fast drying and I have to retouch maybe around on the fourth day of wear. The bottles are a decent size I've been able to get many uses out them as well, and the nail brush is easy to apply to my nails. I forgot how much I paid for these, but I don't think it was over $4.00.

Maybelline New York Color Show

I just started using these about a month ago. Ive been pleased, and I like that a lot of polish colors are vibrant and intense. When I polish my nails it doesn't take too long to dry, so thats also a plus. The only things I have issues with are the size of the bottle and the brush is kind of wide. If you noticed in the picture the polish bottle is small. I haven't used a whole bottle yet, but I wish it were bigger. I paid $3.00 for these and I feel the bottle could be a little bigger for the price. Overall I like the polish and I dont have to retouch until about the fourth day.

Those are a few of the brands of polishes I use, what are some brands you find that last long or just like in general?

Budget Shopping

Hey Everyone!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far (Im still fighting allergies and summer cold lol) Anyway, back to the purpose of todays post, shopping on a budget. In this instance Im focusing on fashion and accessories etc. As a budget shopper myself, I wanted to share a few of my own tips about spending wisely.

1. Do your shopping homework

This a major factor in my opinion to finding the best buys. Look out for bargains and sales etc. Many stores offer email signups to offer deals on their merchandise, especially around or on your birthday☺ You may even want to make a check list of the things you want and/or need to buy so you can get an idea of how much you want to spend.

2. Be observant of the time of year when you’re shopping

Now this is one of my favorite tips. You can almost guarantee that many stores etc. are going to have some sort of holiday sale throughout the year. Youve seen the commercials lol. Take advantage of this opportunity!! However, if you happen to miss a sale or items run out, dont worry you will get another opportunity to do some bargain shopping. You may even find better deals next time!

3. Shopping out of season or...shopping near the end of the current season

Many stores etc. offer great discounts for out of season merchandise. This is another wonderful way to stay within a budget. Going shopping near the end of a current season is also a great time to save. Vendors are trying to get rid of some of their current merchandise, so prices start to decrease. If you catch a good deal you may even save anywhere from 50 to 70% I once got a white coat for $20 that originally cost $60!

4. Use Coupons

Heres another great way to save money, use coupons. I stress the importance of signing up for email notifications from your favorite stores!! Usually you can get coupons with a code if you shop online or the company will send you coupons in the mail. I know some companies will do both. Also look in magazines; Cosmopolitan, Glamour, and Lucky are notorious for offering cosmetics, beauty, and clothing store coupons.

5. Get Crafty

If youre a crafter like me you can purchase materials to make your own item fashion based items. For example when I make beaded jewelry, I look for websites that offer deals associated with the materials. When I make my crochet accessories (hats and scarves etc.) I look for good bargains on yarn. I usually get my materials from Michaels or Wal-Mart. You can find most craft items you need in your local craft store for a reasonable price, but remember to check online as well.

6. Spend Smartly

Ive found these tips have helped me save money over the years, and stay within in my budget. I hope these tips can help you as well☺ Happy Shopping!!

The Perception of Self Image

Hello everyone!

So if  you read my previous naked face blog then you probably can guess the basis of this blog..self image...

First I want to start off by saying I'm not this overly confident person who is on top of the world with being totally secure with myself because im not. In reality I don't think anyone in the world can be that self confident. Nobody is perfect. One of my neighbors in my dorm before I graduated college once said "Pilar you're the most confident person I've ever met" I felt flattered, yet taken aback because I was saying to myself wow "that's how you see me" but when I thought about it a few others have told me that too. I was also saying to myself "I have many insecurities too" However, I wasn't given myself enough credit for the wonderful things others saw in myself that I couldn't see. I guess thats one major reason why I chose psychology as my major in college because I truly want to help people. I've seen so many people struggle with the daily pressures of life and it takes them on a downward spiral. No one should ever have to feel that way...ever..I just feel a lot has to do with our individual self image and perception of ones self. Some people struggle harder with this than others and thats ok. There is no shame in that. I think the most difficult part is when society and media has something to say about it. I'm not going to be a hyprocrite here because I like makeup and fashion etc, but those are just "things" While they are nice to have, they are material items. Material items don't define who you are. Here's food for thought be the best you can be and love yourself, flaws and all :)

What do you think? I would like to know your views on self image etc.

Naked Face Campaign

Hey Everyone! !

Today's blog is a tag repost campaign by rachelgourley  I'm glad to contribute to this because self confidence and acceptance is so important :) check it out!

This is a bit of a different post... this post is to show everyone who follows or looks at my blog that - I'm not perfect - no one's perfect. Everyone is different and everyone has their own insecurities and things that they may not like about themselves - but there is no harm in embracing them and saying "yes I have these but do you know what? I'm me and I'm beautiful" because at the end of the day, are who you are and you look the way you look. There is no shame in not being the typical size 8 the majority of girls and women dream of being, there's nothing wrong with having freckles - 70 odd % of men like freckles! There's nothing wrong being pale - most people relate pale skin to purity -so embrace it!
So many girls, women, boys, and men go to extreme measures because they aren't happy with how they look and the amount of pressure that is put on them is shocking! Magazines, TV shows - even through their own friends and family and lets not forget social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
With that being said - I'm in no way perfect, there are some things I like about myself and some things I don't - so what I have decided to do - which is kind of similar to the tag that was going around Youtube for a while - my perfect imperfections

- here's what you do

1. I'm going to list 3 things I like and don't like about myself and explain why
2. I'll then post a picture of my "naked face"
3. I'm then going to tag some people to do it themselves to help spread the word!

Three Things I Like About Myself

1. My Smile- I've had so many people tell me that I have a smile that can light up a room

2. My Body Type- I like that Im curvy and proportioned.

3. My Skin- My complexion is toned and I keep it hydrated and moisturized.

Three Things I Dislike About Myself

1. My Hair: Even though its thick, its very frizzy and can be unmanageable when its humid outside

2. My Height: I wish I was a little taller than 5.5 ½

3. My Arms: I want them to be more toned and a little less chunky lol

Here you go my naked face! (Its always good to have self confidence even when battling a summer cold and allergies lol)

I'd like to tag ...
acatshabitat.blogspot.com
And everyone else who wants to participate :)...No Pressure to do this

Pass it on and share the word :)

What's In My Hello Kitty Embossed Bag and Makeup Bag??

Hello Everyone!!

Disclaimer:
My apologies for the missing pictures. My pictures were accidentally deleted off my blog. Please Refer to my Instagram account miss_pilar to view the pictures (or some of the pictures) that were deleted.

After viewing and reading many whats in my purse you tube videos and blogs, I've finally gotten around to doing one of my own.

I'll try to keep this short and basic rather than showing every item in my purse that would take a lot of typing! Lol So, I'll just discuss my purse, my makeup bag, and some cosmetics.

Hello Kitty Rhapsody Embossed Bag and Wallet

Just like my black Hello Kitty Emobossed bag (shown in my fashion and style blog) I love this bag just as much☺ It has a TON of room for all my belongings. Sometimes depending what I have in there, the bag can get quite heavy. Normally pink is my favorite color, but I really like this color. I also thought the wallet was cute too, but I’ve had the wallet about a month before I got the matching purse. I also like the fact the purse is adult friendly.

Sometimes I put my pocketbac holder on my bag for easy access

Makeup Bag

I got this lovely makeup bag from Walmart a few months ago. I needed another bag and I saw this cute one for a reasonable price. I usually dont carry this too often unless it is in larger purse like Hello Kitty Embossed Bag etc. Its really roomy and I can fit a lot of items in here.

Left Side Items

Estée Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick: Pure Parfait
Estée Lauder High Gloss Ultra Brilliance: 13 Berry
Avon Healthy Makeup Lip Cream: Berry Pretty
EOS Lip Balm: Summer Fruit
Vaseline Lip Therapy
Nivea Lip Balm
Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula with Vitaman E Swivel Stick (It can be used on skin or lips, but I only use this for my lips)

Middle Items

Fashion Fair Pressed Powder: Brun
Cover Girl Professional Super Thick Lash Mascara: Black
Avon Glimmersticks Liqui-guide Eyeliner: Black
Avon Big Couleur Extra Eye Pencil: Night Glisten
Maybelline Fit Me Blush: Deep Rose

Right Side Items

Maybelline Fit Me Blush: Deep Rose
Revlon Eye Shadow: Smokey Eye Colors

Cosmetics

These items pretty much speak for themselves lol.

Like I said I wanted to keep things kind of basic lol. What are some of your favorite must have items in your purse?

Sentimental Glass Jars

Hello Everyone!!

Disclaimer:
My apologies for the missing pictures. My pictures were accidentally deleted off my blog. Please Refer to my Instagram account miss_pilar to view the pictures (or some of the pictures) that were deleted.

Yesterday I was going through cabinets in the kitchen, and I came across these blue glass hinged jars and another large blue glass jar with a lid. The funny thing is just the other day I saw a set of Ball Mason Jars in the grocery store for $10.00 that caught my eye. (Yes, I plan on purchasing them ☺) I can be a major crafter sometimes and I’ll probably use the Ball Mason Jars for craft items and other small items. Now back to the three glass hinged jars, I’m unsure of what I’ll do with those. It was a happy to surprise to come across them because the jars have sentimental value; they belonged to my favorite late Aunt Cat. I know my mom wants to use the extra large blue jar to put tea bags in. (just like my aunt used to☺)

So how do you…or how would you use a glass hinged jar and/or Mason jar, etc.?

Bath and Body Works Semi Annual Sale Haul (Summer 2013)

Hello Everyone!!

Disclaimer:
My apologies for the missing pictures. My pictures were accidentally deleted off my blog. Please Refer to my Instagram account miss_pilar to view the pictures (or some of the pictures) that were deleted.

I'm a little late with this haul since the Bath and Body Works Semi Annual Sale ended on July 8 lol. I did a major haul, but I didnt do too much damage lol. I was pleased with my purchases except for one set back. I ordered my items offline and when the UPS deliverer handed me the box we both knew something wasn't quiet right...The box smelt a strong scent of PearberryI was like Oh No! The body splash leaked! To my horror not only did it leak, there was nothing left in the bottle!! and it ruined some of my other items!! I didnt get too discourage since I gave customer service a call. My items were replaced all of except the Pearberry Body Splash because it was no longer in stock. Overall, I was satisfied since I was able to get alternative items. I tried to stock up on my favorite items since the prices were very cheap☺

My haul included the following:

Shower Gels, Etc.

1. Pearberry
2. Cucumber Melon
3. Mango Mandarin
4. Country Apple
5. Warm Sugar Vanilla
6. Loofah

I got two of each item except for the Warm Sugar Vanilla (it was free) I thought I’d try the Warm Vanilla Sugar, but I didn’t like the way it smelled so I gave it to my mom☺ The other scent I tried was the Mango Mandarin Shower Gel. I thought it had strong smell at first, but when I used it in the shower it smelt amazing! All the other products I purchased I normally use.

Body Lotions and Body Splashes, Etc.

1. Country Apple Body Lotion
2. Country Apple Body Cream
3. Country Apple Body Splash
4. Pearberry Body Cream
5. Pearberry Body Splash
6. Apple Mango Pocketbac Anti-Bacterial Hand Gel
7. Pocketbac Holder

Just like the shower gels, I also got two of each item in the body lotions etc. except for the Pearberry Body Splash. As I mentioned earlier they couldn’t replace the body splash because it was out of stock.

What are your favorite Bath and Body Work items?

Shower/Bath and Beauty Products

Hello Everyone!!

Disclaimer:
My apologies for the missing pictures. My pictures were accidentally deleted off my blog. Please Refer to my Instagram account miss_pilar to view the pictures (or some of the pictures) that were deleted.

I thought I would focus on writing about my current shower/bath and beauty products. I keep things pretty simple, but consistent on my daily beauty rituals and I wanted to share some of the different products I use.

Bath/ Shower Products

Normally I use Dove soap, but I switched things up by trying this new soap and body wash called Dial Coconut Water and Bamboo Leaf Extract. The smell really caught my attention because it smells wonderful and its not too overpowering. I usually dont buy Dial soap products because it leaves my skin dry; however, this new product from Dial soap and body wash leaves my skin feeling rejuvenated and hydrated.

To keep my face clear and blemish free, I use Noxzema Products. I only exfoliate once to twice a week and I use Noxzema Clean Blemish Control Daily Scrub, Even though its a daily scrub, I dont use it that much because I dont want to over exfoliate. During the rest of the week I use Noxzema Triple Clean Anti-Bacterial Lathering Cleanser. Both products are not drying to my face after usage. As you may notice, I try to use products that keep my skin hydrated. Another product I use to prevent blemishes is Avon Clear Skin Clearing Acne Body Wash. I rarely use this because I dont get many breakouts. When I do get minor breakouts, this is a good body wash to clear it up. I dont like the smell because its kind of strong, but its still a good product to use.

When it comes to shaving gel for my legs, the only shaving gel I have ever used is Skintimate Signature Scents Moisturizing Shaving Gel Raspberry Rain. Im sure there are many other great shaving gels, but this one leaves my legs feeling soft so I never changed brands lol.

Last but not least of my current shower/bath products is Johnsons Baby Moisture Wash Shea and Cocoa Butter. I actually just started using this product. As we all know Johnsons products arent limited to babies only lol, Ive observed that it does keep my skin moisturized and soft during usage and has a great smell!

Beauty Products

Just like my shower and bath products, I like to use beauty products that keep my skin healthy and moisturized. Two products Ive been using for years are Palmers Cocoa Butter and Shea Butter Formula. I love the way it applies easily and doesnt leave my skin greasy. I also like to use Olay Ultra Moisture Lotion with Shea Butter. This lotion gives my skin an extra moisturized glow look that last for a long time. This lotion also doesnt leave my skin greasy.

For my feet, I use Creamy Petroleum Jelly first and then I add lotion to keep my feet extra soft. I dont use a special brand or anything; Im assuming any brand of creamy petroleum jelly would work just fine. In regards to my face Ive also been using Ponds Dry Skin Cream. It only takes a few dabs to rub over my face to leave it soft and moisturized.

I focused on some of my moisturizing shower/bath and beauty products because I feel its so important to have healthy skin. What are some of your shower/bath and beauty products that you use?

Fashion and Style

Hello Everyone!!

I was looking through my closet and I thought to myself This would be a perfect time to do a short blog on my personal style. When I define my personal style, I would say whatever makes me feel confidant and comfortable. Let me explain further When I say comfortable, I mean what I look and feel good wearing. That could be anything from wearing a classy dress with a pair of stylish heels, a pair of jeans, a fitted polo shirt with sneakers or ballet flats, or one of my favorites a really cute maxi dress paired with cute sandals etc. It just all depends on my mood and the occasion for the style I choose to wear for that day.

Other items Im obsessed with are my accessories. I love wearing all types of necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings etc. However my favorite accessories are purses!! As long as I can remember I always had a purse lol. So many purses to choose from☺ Just like my outfits, I have a purse for every occasion.

Overall, I just try to budget shop when it comes to fashion. Designer labels are cool, but I try to style by the quality of an item rather than the price tag. Sometimes I buy myself an expensive gift, but I try not to splurge lol. Whether youre a person who follows trends, thinks outside the box, or prefers to keep it simple etc. base your personal style on what makes you feel confidant and what you like to wear.

Crocheting Support

Hello Everyone!!

I wanted to do a blog on crocheting support. There are some of you out there who are struggling to learn the basics of crocheting. Have no fear…YOU CAN LEARN!!☺ I’m still somewhat a newbie myself, having mastering basic crocheting skills in December 2012. Since then, Im made scarves, blankets, hats, and even a camera case. These are fairly easy projects once you get the basics down. Once you master the basics of crocheting, the possibilities are endless of the things you can make! I plan on making a you tube video soon to help others learn how to crochet and make simple projects. Ill keep everyone posted. Let me know any suggestions, comments, and/or concerns you may have about crocheting and Ill do my best to help☺ Crocheting takes patience, patience, and patience, especially if you’re having a difficult time. As I mentioned previously, once you get the basic down it does get easier☺ Happy Crocheting!!

Here are some of the items I made that I mentioned in the blog…

Scarf and Camera Case

Granny Square Afghan (I made this for my mom for Mother’s day 2013)

Granny Square Blanket

Hats

Hello Everyone!!

*This is a sponsored post* I’m excited to be doing today’s blog! I want thank the people at http://www.giantvintage.com/ for sending me four pairs of sunglasses ☺ So, let me begin the review on the items I chose☺

CORFU Tortoise (Cat Eye)

These are my new favorite obsession! Surprisingly out of all the sunglasses I own, these are my first pair of cat eye sunglasses. In addition to liking the color, I wanted to try something new and switch things up a bit. I'm glad I did because I really love these sunglasses. As the website notes These are non vintage but I have to agree with the site, I think theyre super cool anyway! I cant wait to wear these out!! (listed under the cat eye category)

TOLEDO Black (Wayfarer)

I figured since I was trying out new styles, I would give wayfarers a try. (these are also non vintage) I'm glad I chose these because like those cat eye sunglasses, these are my first pair of wayfarers. I got them in black since its such a versatile color. I also like that the frames are thicker since I think thicker framed wayfarers look better on my face lol (listed under the wayfarer category)

BLIMA Tortoise

If you saw my sunglasses collection in my other blog, you may have noticed that I'm a huge fan of the BLIMA sunglasses. These are the most fabulous of all my larger sunglasses. I just had to add another pair to the collection. Since Ive become a fan of tortoise colored sunglasses, thats why I decided to get this color. (listed under 70s 70s 70s category)

BELLE Purple

For my last pair, I chose these purple sunglasses. I really like these sunglasses just as much as the BELLE Champagne. I've been looking for a pair of purple sunglasses that would mesh well with my accessories for this outfit that I have. As luck would have, I found a perfect shade of purple! I'm very happy about that! lol

I want to thank the people at giant vintage once again for sending me these fabulous sunglasses!!! As always, HAPPY SHOPPING EVERYONE!!
