Crocheting Project: Mug Warmers (a.k.a. Cozies)

Hello Everyone!

Disclaimer:
My apologies for the missing pictures. My pictures were accidentally deleted off my blog. Please Refer to my Instagram account miss_pilar to view the pictures (or some of the pictures) that were deleted.

I've really been in the spirit for Fall lately :) Today has been really Fall like, and I was finally able to wear my boots yay!! Even though the weather will likely go back to being warm (based on the weather report)...I'll enjoy the coolness while it's here! The weather can be cool or warm in South Carolina during the cooler months! lol

However, I still enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate or hot lemon tea :) So I figured why not make cute warmers (cozies) for my beverage mug. I've been seeing these a lot on crochet pattern websites and on YouTube and I just made a few for myself. They were very simple to make! The wonderful thing about crocheting is that I'm always trying to find new and creative things to make!

Here are the cozies I made :)

Plain Mug

The cozies I made placed on the mug.
Side Note: the bows are located on the left side of the mug since I'm right handed.

So let's get started! I'm sooooo happy this is only a tag! It would be kind of heartbreaking to make some of these decisions if it were real!! lol

1.) Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lip glosses or lose all of your palettes and eyeshadows?

I would rather not think about losing any of my makeup but I rather lose the mascaras, eyeliners, and lip glosses and lipsticks. ..sigh

2.) Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again

Never be able to cut it again

3.) Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?

4.) If you had $1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?

Hmm...so I have a lot of clothes..I can always use more makeup :)

5.) Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?

Eyeliner as lipsticks

6.) Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?

8.) Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?

Summer clothes in winter! Omgosh, it scorching in the summertime in SC to wear layers of clothing!

9.) Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?

Bright! Bright! Bright Colors!

10.) Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?

Favorite lip color...sigh once again lol

11.) Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?

Messy bun

12.) Would you rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lip gloss?

Never be able to use lip gloss :(

13.) Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?

Crocheting Project: Fall Themed Granny Square Afghan

Hello Everyone!

Disclaimer:
My apologies for the missing pictures. My pictures were accidentally deleted off my blog. Please Refer to my Instagram account miss_pilar to view the pictures (or some of the pictures) that were deleted.

I've been meaning to post this since last Saturday (10/12/13), but I didn't get around to doing so until now. Anyways, here is my latest project! Since it's Fall, I went ahead and made the Fall themed Granny Square Afghan. As you can tell I did a large Granny Square pattern rather than the single squares. I love how all the colors really give me a feel of the Fall season. This project took me about two weeks to finish.

Stay tuned for my next crocheting project that I'm going to post in the next few days :)

Dealing with Difficult People

Hello Everyone!

Since it's the beginning of a new week, I wanted to write an inspirational post on dealing with difficult people. We all know them…the always rude, negative, nasty having attitude types of people. The negative traits of these type people are endless.  Most people, including myself would find the easiest solution would be to simply avoid or ignore these types of people, right? Well not always…when you think about it difficult people are everywhere. Family members, coworkers, random strangers etc. can try to infringe their negativity on others. I find the best way to deal with difficult people is to try to make the best of the situation. That's not always easy, trust me I know! I've notice that difficult people are usually insecure and unhappy with themselves and their lives etc. so these types of people try to make life difficult for everyone else. I also try not to argue with these type people because most of the time it won't solve anything and it's really no point in getting overly upset on nonsense.

In conclusion try not to let anyone or anything ruin your day. Happy Beginning to another Week :)  How do you deal with difficult people?

Why Do You Wear Makeup Tag

Hello Everyone!

Today's post is a tag :) I want to thank Lily@beautywithlily and Laurie@themakeupsquid for tagging me! Check out these ladies amazing blogs on beauty, advice, and fashion etc!

1. When did you begin loving makeup?

I've been interested in makeup since I was a little girl, but I first began loving makeup when I was around 15. Back then I was a newbie so I when I wore makeup, I just kept things simple with lipgloss and face powder.

2. How do you feel without makeup?

I actually feel perfectly fine without it :) I love to wear it, but during the summer months I don't wear it much because of heat and humidity. I can adjust without it. If I'm going to an important event etc. I will definitely be wearing makeup.

3. What do you like about makeup?

I like the fact that I can create different looks. To me makeup is similar to art, the creation of different looks can be so beautiful. I know this may sound a bit cliché, but I've always felt that makeup enhances natural beauty.

4. Three holy grain items:

- Avon Ideal Flawless Concealer Stick
- Ponds Dry Skin Cream
- Estèe Lauder Eyeshadow Palettes

I want to tag everyone who wants to do this!

My Fall Favorites!

Hello Everyone!

Disclaimer:
My apologies for the missing pictures. My pictures were accidentally deleted off my blog. Please Refer to my Instagram account miss_pilar to view the pictures (or some of the pictures) that were deleted.

I wanted to do a quick post of some of my favorite items that I love wearing during the Fall.

Old Navy Cardigans:

I absolutely love these cardigans! They can go with almost any outfit and the cardigans are so soft. They're long, but not all that oversized which is ok :) As long as Old Navy keeps selling cardigans and maxi dresses, I'll always be a shopper! lol

Basic leggings:

These are really comfy, but thin. I typically wear these with an oversized shirt or an oversized sweater. I only wear these leggings if it's not to cold outside.

Handmade Crocheted Scarf:

Well it wouldn't be a fall favorites post without adding one of my scarves to my list lol.

Ballet Flats:

I really like ballet flats, they come in all sorts of cute patterns and colors. I don't wear them a lot though because sometimes they can be uncomfortable.  As you may notice, I haven't gotten around to wearing the grey checkered ballet flats yet lol.

Faux Fur Boots:

These boots are really warm and they're lightweight. I can wear these hours on end and my  feet remain comfortable.

Well there you have it, a few of my favorite items that I wear during the Fall. What are some of your favorite items for this season?

Side Note: For those of you who keep up with my crocheting, I finished my Afghan in the early hours of Saturday morning lol. Picture coming soon!!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Hello Everyone!

In addition to my domestic violence awareness post, another important issue I want to focus on today is breast cancer awareness. Cancer in general can be a difficult diagnosis to hear from your doctor. That's why education, screening, awareness, research, and support about cancer are so important.

According to http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org
Breast cancer is defined as a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the breast. The damaged cells can invade surrounding tissue, but with early
detection and treatment, most people continue a normal life.

Facts according to http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org

1. One in eight women will be diagnosedwith breast cancer in their lifetime.

2. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.

3. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women.

4. Each year it is estimated that over 220,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die.

5. Although breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,150 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 410 will die each year.

Yes, I know these facts are rather frightening, but as I stated earlier it is known that early detection can be very helpful in combating and surviving the illness. So everone please be aware of the seriousness of breast cancer and all cancers in general. Just like the facts stated, men can have breast cancer just as women can at any age. Please take the time to do self breast exams and look for any lumps etc. to discuss with your doctor.

October Is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Hello Everyone!

Today's post is going to be a little different than the topics I normally discuss. Since October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month this is what I want to focus my post on today. On the local new about a week ago, it was reported the state I live in South Carolina is ranked #1 in the nation for domestic violence. Disturbing right...most definitely! It's not the fact the South Carolina is ranked #1, moreover that this problem is ongoing in general.  It breaks my heart to know so many people are being abused and mistreated. I said people because men can be victims as well, anyone can be a victim of domestic violence.

In 2007, I was writing a paper on domestic violence (I chose the topic) and for one of my resources I called Sistercare. Sistercare is an organization and shelter in South Carolina that helps women (and her child(ren) in abusive relationships etc. Well I had a lengthy conversation with the one of the counselors, and she gave me so many disturbing facts and statistics as I will say again were just heartbreaking to hear. I knew most of the things she told me, but to think the problem is actually getting worse. At the time in 2007, South Carolina was #7 and now the state is at the top of the list.
*UPDATE: AS OF 2015, SOUTH CAROLINA IS RANKED ONCE AGAIN #1 IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Thankfully, I never grew up in an abusive home nor have I ever been in a physically abusive relationship. People should be aware of how others treat you, those are usually telltale signs of what's to come. It's been known that verbal and emotionally abuse can lead to physical abuse. The pain and suffering these victims endure is awful and even worse sadly many victims suffer in silence because of fear, shame, and embarrassment.

If you are currently in this type of situation, please get help and have a safety plan. Your safety (and your child(ren) are what's most important. There are people who are there to help you i.e., the police and/or shelters. If you know someone in this situation please be supportive, and not judgmental. I think sometimes people can come off as unintentionally judgmental when offering support.

Abusive victims shouldn't feel embarrassed or ashamed because it is their abuser who has the issues of anger control etc. I'm not one to attack anyone's character, but let's face facts abusers need help themselves hence counseling or jail time for their inappropriate violent actions. Well everyone I close this post with food for thought…a push or shove is never ok, love should never hurt.
